Family Mediation

Family mediation is a practical and informal process that can help you resolve issues arising from a divorce or separation which may include arrangements for their children, financial and housing matters. It can help parties to communicate and understand each other’s views whilst recognising that people may feel vulnerable and frustrated when they start the mediation process.

This process can save stress, time and money by providing the opportunity for you to reach an out of court agreement that works for you, decided in a neutral and comfortable setting with the guidance of an impartial mediator.

Mediation is not suitable for every dynamic and before the process starts, a mediator will speak with each party in separate meetings to assess whether mediation is suitable. If mediation is not suitable, we will give you a certificate which will enable the process to move to the Family Courts for a hearing. However, if it is suitable and the process commences, each party will have a chance to put forth their proposals and try to negotiate a mutually acceptable outcome that works for all involved. If you manage to reach a set of proposals, the mediator will put this in writing and send this to us as your Solicitors.
